ELONGATE Distributes Food and Covid Relief to Female Workers in Indonesia

ELONGATE is committed to supporting those affected by the pandemic in some of the most vulnerable and hardest-hit regions. This global crisis has not only impacted global health but has also impacted regional economies, workers, and their families.

Much like the rest of the world, Indonesia’s workforce was reduced by the global economic downturn and regional lockdowns necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The unemployment rate had surged in the first year of the pandemic. Roughly 2.6 million Indonesians were out of work by the end of 2020. Many families found themselves struggling to pay the bills.

As a response to the surge in unemployment, Elongates Indonesian Ambassador, Ilham In response to the surge in unemployment, Elongates Indonesian Ambassador, Ilham Maulana, organized a charity effort on Indonesia’s 76th Independence Day. In collaboration with the Sekadau Local Government, and POM (Persatuan Orang Melayu), Ilham coordinated with the Elongate social impact team. They distributed 69 basic food packages to female workers who are the sole income providers for their families. In addition to food packages, they also distributed toiletries, masks, and health protocol information packets.

Their impact was featured in eight local news outlets. This is only the first social impact initiative from Elognate in Indonesia. They have plans for further initiatives in the region.
